Flexible Solutions for Unique Engineering Requirements
Not every customer fits neatly into a defined industry — and at Boro Foundry, that’s never an issue. With over six decades of experience in general engineering castings, we offer flexible, project-specific solutions backed by technical expertise and production agility.
Whether you have an existing pattern or need something built from scratch, we can adapt to suit your process. Our material range includes all grades of iron, carbon steels, Ni-Hard and Ni-Resist, and select stainless steels, giving us the ability to support a wide spectrum of requirements.
Castings from 0.5kg to 8,000kg
We regularly manufacture castings ranging from half a kilo to 8 tonnes — from complex one-off components to production runs in the thousands. Whether you need a raw casting, a fully machined part, or even a complete assembly, we’ve got the scale and capacity to deliver.
Common components we supply include:
• Bespoke bearing housings
• Gears, brackets and structural supports
• Obsolete or legacy parts for machines
• Heat treatment castings
• Crane wheels and lifting components
• Valve bodies and pump casings
• Iron and steel impellers
• Prototypes and short-run production parts
Supporting Fast Turnaround for Furnace Repairs
When a local forging company suffered a breakdown on a bell furnace, they needed urgent replacements for skirt castings and furnace doors. The challenge was finding a heat-resistant alloy that would hold up in continuous operation. We recommended BS 3100 311C11, improved the existing pattern tooling, and delivered on time — helping the client avoid costly delays.
Ongoing Supply for Crane Castings
An established crane manufacturer required small-batch castings in EN-GJS-700-2 ductile iron, with full mechanical certification and batch control. We developed a pattern tool that allowed two wheel variants to be cast from a single setup — reducing tooling costs and streamlining production. With ISO 9001 accreditation and large-scale capacity, Boro Foundry was able to meet every requirement with confidence.
Large Bearing Housing for Export
A bearing manufacturer approached us with a specialist order for a bearing housing destined for North America. The base alone weighed 2.4 tonnes, with the cap close to 1.5 tonnes — cast in EN-GJS-450-10 ductile iron. Boro Foundry is one of just three UK foundries capable of producing this component in that material — and the only one able to cast and machine both parts in-house. We completed the job, start to finish, in just 12 working weeks.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What industries do you supply under ‘general engineering’?
We support a wide range of sectors — from crane manufacturers and forging companies to bearing and pump producers. If your requirement doesn’t fit neatly into a specific industry, we can still provide a tailored casting solution.
What size range of castings can you produce?
We manufacture castings from as small as 0.5kg to as large as 8,000kg (8 tonnes). This flexibility means we can supply everything from small precision components to very large industrial castings.
Do you offer both raw castings and fully finished parts?
Yes. Depending on your needs, we can supply raw castings, fully machined parts, or even complete assembled units — giving you a one-stop solution.
What materials can you cast in?
Our material offering includes all grades of iron, carbon steels, Ni-Hard, Ni-Resist, and selected stainless steels. This allows us to match the best material to your application for strength, wear resistance, or heat tolerance.
Can you provide certification and traceability?
Absolutely. For critical applications — such as crane wheels or heavy-duty bearings — we provide full mechanical certification and batch traceability. Our ISO 9001 accreditation ensures quality control at every stage.
